DHS Final Rule Ending Duration of Status
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published a final rule in the Federal Register regarding the elimination of Duration of Status (D/S) for F and J visa holders. This final rule will go into effect 60 days after the publication date, which will be on September 15, 2026, unless DHS changes or terminates the rule after congressional review.
International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) is reviewing the final rule in detail and analyzing the potential impacts on our campus community. We will share additional information and guidance as it becomes available. In the meantime, students and the campus community should review the following resources:

We understand that changes to immigration policy can create uncertainty and concern. ISSS remains committed to supporting our international students, scholars, and the broader UCCS community throughout this transition. We will continue to provide timely, accurate information as additional guidance becomes available.
Because immigration regulations are complex and continue to evolve, students, faculty, and staff should rely on official guidance from ISSS and federal agencies rather than information circulating on social media, news outlets, or other unofficial sources. Faculty and staff who receive questions about the final rule are encouraged to refer students directly to ISSS so they receive the most current and accurate information specific to their individual circumstances.
Students: The UCCS Wellness Center offers confidential support for students experiencing stress, anxiety, loneliness, or anyone who would simply benefit from speaking with a counselor.
Faculty and Staff: There are several options available for faculty and staff. Please review information here.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as ISSS reviews these developments. We are committed to keeping our community informed with clear, accurate, and timely guidance.
Information coming soon.
